Dynamic Pore Pressure Test

« Back to Glossary Index

The deliberate, controlled reduction of bottomhole pressure during fluid circulation to definitively establish the exact point where formation fluids enter the wellbore. Operators execute this procedure by incrementally decreasing surface back pressure while the mud pumps remain active. Because the system maintains Equivalent Circulating Density, this evaluation reveals the true active pore pressure limit. The crew immediately increases pressure to restore wellbore stability the moment a micro-influx is detected. Conducting this test establishes the strict lower operating limit for Managed Pressure Drilling, ensuring compliance with the stability parameters.
