A type of well control incident unique to geothermal drilling. It is an influx of hot formation fluid, either water or steam, into the wellbore. This hot fluid is less dense than the drilling fluid, and its presence lowers the overall weight, or hydrostatic pressure, of the fluid column in the well. This reduction in hydrostatic pressure May lead to a loss of primary well control.
