Downhole equipment sealing off annular space. A major component of most downhole completion designs, where the packer provides a pressure-tight seal between the tubing and casing so fluid flow will be diverted up the tubing rather than up the tubing–casing annulus. This protects the casing from pressure and corrosive fluids.
