Landing Point (LP)

« Back to Glossary Index

Landing Point (LP) is the exact depth and angle where a directional wellbore enters the target formation and begins the horizontal section. Operators must reach this target safely while maintaining precise pressure control. Because the rock structure often changes near the reservoir boundary, the mud pumps and surface choke must balance Equivalent Circulating Density perfectly. Therefore, successfully navigating to the LP dictates when the crew sets and cements the production casing.
